Samsung announces SDK for Bixby

Hi Bixby, say hello to brands

Brands aren’t the only ones innovating through Voice Experiences. Last week Samsung announced that they’ll be opening up their SDK (Software Developer Kit) for their Bixby Voice Assistant – at the Samsung Developer Conference in November. Since the birth of Bixby, the industry has been curious as to where Samsung’s offering will sit within the Voice ecosystem & if it will be available for brands to tap into.

Not only is Bixby newer than its competitors; Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, Bixby doesn’t need to partner with third parties for integration. Samsung Bixby has captured the curiosity of the Voice industry. Voice Experiences made by the developers outside their in-house team multiplies the reach and accessibility of their offering – vastly different from the privatisation of Apple’s Siri. The looming deceleration of the smartphone market has created a race to differentiate their smartphones from the stiff competition between Samsung, Apple, Google and Huawei.

The South Korean company has been steadily testing the beta version – Bixby 2.0 – proved the usage of the Voice AI through the release of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. With a dedicated button and integration with several apps, not to mention, the soon-to-be-released Galaxy Home smart speaker, Samsung Bixby is here to stay.

Alongside the launch, Samsung is partnering with BeMyApp, to run an innovation showcase. Encouraging brands & developers to test & build Voice Experiences on their new platform. Samsung is carefully inviting a selection of developers to take part in the competition, allowing developers & designers to earn rewards & prizes of up to $10,000.

VERSA’s Strategy Director, Tom Glover, is anticipating the introduction of this new platform and is looking to find new opportunities as Samsung Bixby shakes up the ever-evolving Australian Voice market.

“With over 17,000 Alexa skills available here in Australia, combined with Google’s dominance in their platform offering, it’s great to see another platform (Samsung) that Australians are really familiar with using”
