Village Cinemas Voice

See it in action

From romantic date nights to mind-blowing blockbuster experiences, Village Cinemas offer it all. But finding the perfect movie to suit the mood can be a tricky one. Partnering with VERSA, Village Cinemas created a branded Alexa skill that finds personalised movie recommendations and sessions times.

Discovery & Strategy

Using voice to answer queries

Behind the curtain, Village Cinemas know that the customers’ pre-visit experience, can sometimes be the trickiest: “What’s on today at Southland?”, “What romantic movies are showing?”, “When is Avengers showing on Saturday?”.

Outside of going online to find the answers, there are no other ways for customers to ask in their homes; and people can sometimes default to calling rather than searching. We found this insight through the Customer Service team, they respond to hundreds of low-priority queries every day. If voice could answer these questions, Village were interested.

Design & Innovation

Entertainment info through conversation

One of our first conversational design pieces, the Village Alexa Skill was test of our skill. The end result is a rich library of ever-changing movie and session content. With many moving parts, it allows users to get the latest information with ease.

The skill allows users to discover movies, set their preferred cinema, and hear the latest session times for their favourite films.

Technology & Development

Bookings, personalisation and recomendations

Village Cinemas is amongst the first Australian skills available in the Amazon Alexa stores. We were very proud to launch something so robust, where customers have full flexibility and customisation.

Customers can ask Alexa for movies showing at different concept cinemas like Gold Class, VPremium or child-specific cinemas. Different to the website, the skill can give users recommendations on top-selling movies. Users can also opt to receive a text message with a link to secure their seats and tickets online.
